About

Alok Adhikari

Hi, I’m Alok Adhikari. I direct the Kathmandu Doc Lab at the kimff Foundation, a development and pitching forum for documentary filmmakers from across South Asia. Before that I spent five years as Assistant Director of Film Southasia, the biennial documentary festival in Kathmandu.

Alongside that, I’ve served on selection committees and as a reader for international film festivals and funds, including the IDFA Forum, Sheffield DocFest and Chicken & Egg Films.

Editing is where I started and it’s still what I love most. I began as an Assistant Editor at VICE Media in New York, on VICE on HBO and a couple of VICELAND series, and since coming home I’ve edited shorts, a 26-episode documentary series, and a feature. I also work with Eddie AI, helping an editing tool think more like an editor.

I studied Liberal Arts at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, which is where I learned to read closely and argue properly, both of which turn out to matter in a cutting room.

I’m most interested in long creative partnerships and in stories from this part of the world that haven’t been told carefully yet.
